▣ About Mungyeong Filming Site

The Mungyeong filming site is where KBS makes historical drama films set in the Goryeo era. It was built at Yongsagol behind Yeongnam Gateway No. 1 in Mungyeongsaejae on February 23, 2000. At the time, 3.2 billion won was invested to cover construction expenses. 2 palaces, 42 tile roof houses , 40 thatched roof houses, and 13 other buildings were built on a 65,755㎡ area, making it the largest historic filming site in Korea.

The reasons to choose Mungyeongsaejae for the filming site were because the terrain of Joryeongsan and Juheulsan were considered to be similar to Songaksan in Geseong (in what is now North Korea), the capital of Goryeo. Also well-preserved ancient paths were very suitable for filming historical dramas.

So far, KBS epic TV dramas such as Taejo Wang Geon, the Morning of the Empire, the Era of Warrior, Dae Jo Young, King Geunchogo, Scandal of Seonggyungwan, King Saejong, King Gwanggeto, and period movies such as Scandal and the Romantic Assassin were filmed.

With Mungyeong city's production support, the former Goryeo era sets were demolished and the current sets completed on April 16, 2008 emulating the structures of the Chosun dynasty.

The construction budget was 7.5 billion won, and 103 buildings such as Gwanghwamun, Gyeongbokgung, Donggung, Seoungwan, official buildings in the palaces and noble men's houses were built. In total, the 130 sets of buildings including 22 thatched roof houses and 5 tile roofed houses cover a 70,000㎡ area.
